LSPS Christmas Party 2011

This year the Lakeland Sail and Power Squadron had our Christmas party with the Winter Haven Nautical Club.  Many of us are members of both organizations.  It was a great way to reduce some of the craziness many of us experience during the busy holiday season.  As usual, gifts were exchanged and then donated to Toys for Tots.  We got our laughs selecting a toy which reminding us in some way of the recipient, and then the toy will live it's life making a child happy.  Definitely a win win for us (a bit of fun to be poked at a fellow member and friend, and donations to a great charity)

Another year, another Orange Cup Regatta!.  This year was a huge success.  With the help of the Winter Haven Nautical Club, we servers several hundred hamburgers, cheese burgers and hotdogs.  The LSPS brought in over $1000 to the accounts which will be used to fund all the educational courses and activities offered to the public.

Also this year, Ben Valich and Kayla Dodd both worked the event to earn community service points.  Both did a great job and had a bunch of fun working with the LSPS.

2010 Roar & Soar

The Lakeland Sail and Power Squadron in partnership with The Winter Haven Nautical Club served great hotdogs, hamburgers and pork at the annual Roar & Soar presented by Fantasy of Flight.  The concessions were a great hit down by the water.  The Classic Race Boat Association was there roaring around the lake.  The Lakeland Sail and Power Squadron provided two perimeter boats to help keep the recreation boaters a safe distance from the race course and the boat racers safe.

All had a great time.  A big thanks to all from the Power Squadron and the Winter Haven Nautical Club for volunteering their time to make the concessions a success.

2010 Memorial Day C & R to Hamock Beach resort, Palm Coast

The Lakeland Sail and Power Squadron had a C&R to Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast Florida over the Memorial Day weekend.  Members of both the LSPS and the Winter Haven Nautical Club attended.  The group gathered at Loves Truck Stop to trailer over to Halifax Harbor Marina in Daytona Beach, the launch point for the cruise up the ICW 30 miles to Palm Coast.  Over the weekend, members enjoyed all the amenities of Hammock Beach.  Several members spent quite a bit of time cooling off from the days heat floating down the resorts "Lazy River" pool.  The kids enjoyed the water slide and the "beach" pool.

A great time was had by all.  Most importantly, the cruise was trouble free!

Independence Day C&R

The Lakeland Sail & Power Squadron enjoyed a C&R coupled with the Winter Haven Nautical Club over the long Independence Day holiday.  The clubs cruised to Twin Dolphin Marina in Bradenton Florida.  All enjoyed the great fireworks display after the pool party hosted by the marina.  The marina provided pulled pork from the local restaurant, Mattison's Riverside, and a keg of beer.  Marina residence and transients each contributed a dish to share.  The food was wonderful, plentiful and of a wide variety.  Truly a great time.

Much time was spent on a local "watering hole" downtown Bradenton called Council's.  Cold beer, awesome hand made hamburgers, chili and pool tables... what more could be asked?
